Virtual Environments
When development of a production system is costly or requires testing to prove viability, virtual reality or modeling and simulation can be a viable solution. Computer-simulated environments can emulate places or events in the real world without the danger, cost, or other risks associated with a real world development. ETC is working with various clients to develop computer-based models to test and evaluate real world problems.
As part of its goal to become a service provider of virtual modeling and simulation solutions, ETC is developing a Virtual Environment (VE) Simulator. The VE Simulator is designed to replicate realistic, operationally-relevant, naval scenarios involving small boats in a littoral environment. It offers a three-dimensional, immersive world by implementing high fidelity physics-based scenes that incorporate rigid body dynamics, waves, and dynamic obstacles to simulate collision detection and collision avoidance behaviors. A 3D-rendered display can be altered to reflect reduced-visibility conditions and virtual cameras have user configurable positions, orientations, and fields of view. The system will include a machine learning framework for generating mission planning logic and maneuver logic.
